1. Slattery Sales Tip: Your prospects are trained for THIS
Don’t underestimate the pressure your salespeople are under in a competitive sale. They’re up against skilled businesspeople who have been trained to set the table so every purchase is viewed as a commodity buy and lowest price will reign supreme.
If they aren’t adequately equipped to handle those discussions, then your salespeople are at risk of succumbing to lower margins. (Remember, most salespeople have a need to be liked that is stronger than their need to win the sale.)
Equip your sellers to win at high value, even when they're up against well-trained buyers.
They should be able to:
Ask great questions, instead of talking about their stuff. (Talking about their stuff will get them commoditized!)
Shift the focus of the conversation from price to cost. (Prospects love to conflate those two concepts!)
Get commitment to mutually-agreed-upon next steps before doing anything that costs time and resources. (Always know what happens next!)
With these skills, they will be better equipped to handle the pressures and pushbacks their prospects are trained to provide. (And your margins will be more secure!)

2. A powerful short video on performance & trust
I offer you a ridiculously powerful little video that will take less than three minutes of your time.
Simon Sinek asked the Navy SEALs, “How do you promote people?” After all, they are arguably the highest-performing team of all time; how does one get promoted to be on SEAL Team Six?
His explanation is eye-opening. They distinguish between two traits.
Performance= Skills on the battlefield. “I can trust you with my life.”
Trust = Integrity off the battlefield. “I can trust you with my money and my wife.”
His application to business is sobering. “We have a million and one metrics to measure someone’s performance, and negligible to no metrics to measure someone’s trustworthiness. So we end up promoting or bonusing toxicity in our businesses, which is bad for the long game, because it eventually destroys the whole organization.”
My dad and I have seen many company cultures over four decades and 2,400+ clients – some healthy, some toxic – and I can say with vigor: This. Is. SO. True.
One high-performing, low-trust person can destroy years of team-building, skills training, and growth momentum.
Enjoy this three-minute clip. If you’re leading a company or a team, don’t ignore signs of low integrity. Don’t ignore signs of high integrity.
It may seem superfluous when you have a million metrics ready to measure performance, and none to measure trust, but it’s critical to the health of your team, your revenue, and ultimately your enterprise to spot integrity and reward it.
