January 2025 Infrequent Flyer

Happy New Year! 🎉🥳🎊🥂

Welcome to your January edition of the “Infrequent Flyer!” We share carefully-curated insights for you here, all with the goal of empowering you to win more (and enjoy some life along the way).

Here are a few things we’re sharing with you in this month’s edition to help you bolster your selling efforts as we enter 2025, and enjoy a bit of life, too.

  1. Our favorite Slattery Sales Tip for the month (you hear it first!)

  2. A glance at our clients’ favorite goal-setting exercise (recently launched!)

  3. My favorite motivational posters, ever

May you be encouraged to keep selling well at high value and high margins. Cheers to your prosperity!

1. Our favorite Slattery Sales Tip for the month

If you’ve been getting surprises you weren’t expecting (in your sales, your pipeline, your results), it may be a sign that you need to refresh your Differentiating Value.

Yesterday’s differentiators are today’s table stakes.

Competitors catch up. The marketplace shifts. Prospects’ needs change.

What set you apart in 2024 is simply the bar to get on the RFP list in 2025.

If you find that you’re getting surprises in the marketplace, and you haven’t been winning deals you should be winning, go back to your Differentiating Value, and refresh it. Re-validate it. Dig into your business model; look at your competitors; review your prospects.

You may find that some small things (or big things) have changed.

That’s okay. Once you have that clarity, you can equip your sales team to make the necessary shift in language so they’re competing on your new Differentiating Value instead. 💪 That’s territory where you can win. 🎯

2. A glance at our clients’ favorite goal-setting exercise

Last month, we launched Your Sales Growth Matrix – a simple digital tool and masterclass built from our clients’ favorite goal-setting exercise, to help them protect their time and achieve their goals with fewer quarter-end surprises.

For almost forty years, we’ve been helping salespeople and sales leaders break down their big ambitious goals into clarity: exactly what needs to be done – every day, every week – to achieve the results they’re seeking.

Many sales metrics and KPIs are simply trailing indicators, showing up only after time and effort have elapsed; they are difficult to change mid-stream.

But Your Sales Growth Matrix uncovers the leading behaviors that can achieve those big ambitious goals. Our clients love the clarity it brings to their strategic planning every quarter and year.

If you want an extra boost to your 2025 goals, and you haven’t yet gotten your hands on a copy of Your Sales Growth Matrix, you can grab your copy here.

You’ll have a personalized map to your daily and weekly non-negotiable behaviors; customized cushion and pacing; and the very specific hourly value of your time, to help you build a moat around your calendar and zoom in with laser focus on the things that will help you win.

Cheers to less whirlwind, fewer quarter-end surprises, and stronger margins in 2025!

3. My favorite motivational posters, ever

I grew up in the sales industry.

My dad started the Slattery Sales Group when I was a toddler, and our dinner conversations throughout my childhood revolved around the family business (scintillating topics like margin challenges and sales skills).

My school vacations were spent hanging out in my dad’s training center in Edina, Minnesota (cheaper than childcare!).

And my parents dragged me along to sales conferences, where I scribbled in my coloring books in a back-row seat in the auditorium and absorbed by osmosis the sales trends du jour.

And here’s a trend you may remember: back in the late 1980s and 1990s, there was A LOT of motivation.

Every sales conference speaker had to include some kind of “yay-rah-rah”, “go-get-’em-tiger”, “pump it up!” motivational boost. Sports analogies abounded. (I admit, I still love a great motivational speech!)

And every office I walked into had some version of a motivational poster on the wall. You know the type – a beautifully inspiring stock photograph of a snowy mountaintop, or a flying eagle, a lit candle, or joined hands, with a caption like “TEAMWORK” and a short text full of wisdom around it.

Well.

Perhaps it’s because I was steeped in this culture from a very young age, but one of my favorite finds in the 21st century has been Despair, Inc. – a company dedicated to riffing on that motivational-poster theme with excellent deadpan humor.

If you’re looking for a new motivational poster in 2025, look no further thanhttps://despair.com/collections/demotivators

May these humorous takes on the classic themes bring a bit of dark midwinter humor to your 2025 planning and goal-setting.

Enjoy!

And of course, we wish you a wonderful month filled with real motivation, energy, and focus. 😊 Cheers a successful and prosperous 2025!

Thank you for being for being part of the Slattery circle. It's a privilege to have you here.
