1. Slattery Sales Tip: Three mindset shifts to make to protect your margins when you're thinking about your sale

Mindset Shift #1: It’s not about when they’ll make a decision – it’s about when they need the problem solved. (Focusing on "decision" is about you, not them. Focusing on them, not you, protects your margins.)

Mindset Shift #2: It’s not about how much they’ll spend on your solution – it’s about how much they’re already spending to keep the problem. (Slattery No-Fail Selling Rule #7: If they can't articulate how much it's costing them to keep the problem, they'll never spend money to fix it.)

Mindset Shift #3: It’s not about finding decision-makers; it’s about how they’ll come to a decision, to do or not do business with you. (Getting to clarity on what's important to everyone involved will tell you exactly where you'll get points for your Differentiating Value over a competitor's lower price or promises.)

These three shifts can help keep your sale away from Wimp Junction®, and open up new opportunities to leverage your value and win at high margin.

2. A personal Update

Thank you to all of you wonderful humans for your support and prayers! My mom, Wendy, recently underwent the CAR-T therapy for her Multiple Myeloma, and is doing VERY well.

She’s been writing more funny, honest updates at her CaringBridge site here.

She was informed on Christmas Day that her cancer was back, so the last four months for my parents have been full of tests, stress, and treatment. But she is home now and getting stronger (and antsier, and stir-crazier) day by day. Both of my parents are doing well.

Thank you so much for your comments, your outreach, your notes – my parents read every single one and are deeply blessed by them all.

3. A podcast recommendation

I recently discovered the "Acquired" podcast, and it’s been delightful. I’ve binged my way through their archives (2021 onward) during my daily commutes.

The hosts are two young guys in venture capital who dive deep into great technology companies and the stories behind them. Their research is robust, their energy is high, their conversations are interesting, and they have great perspectives on business strategy. (And if you've worked with us and are familiar with Slattery's approach to Differentiating Value, you'll especially appreciate their insights! 😁)

One of the best conversations I came across in my recent spree was this episode with Katherine Boyle here.

If you listen to nothing else this week, grab this episode and enjoy the conversation among very smart businesspeople -- full of optimism, energy, entrepreneurship, business insights, and forward thinking.

4. Looking for YOUR input: topics

We’re constantly looking for ways to optimize our training delivery for YOU, our clients.
