1. Our Favorite Sales Tip of the Month: Pursuing a sale requires the ruthless pursuit of clarity.
Pursuing a sale requires the ruthless pursuit of clarity.
When your prospect tells you they’re interested in “moving forward”, do you have clarity on exactly what “moving forward” means?
Maybe it means… issuing an RFP (and if you didn’t write the specs for the RFP, a competitor’s already won it).
Maybe it means… starting to think about… asking for approval… to begin considering… maybe pulling together… a committee to… start evaluating the options in the marketplace.
Yikes.
It may not mean you’ve won the business yet.
When your prospect tells you they need your solution up and running “soon”, do you have clarity on exactly what “soon” means?
Tomorrow?
Next month?
Fifth quarter next fiscal year?
Ambiguous words corrupt your forecast.
Ambiguous words give your prospect negotiating room.
If you give up clarity now, you give up margins later.
Selling requires getting to a level of clarity that many sellers find uncomfortable.
But for the sake of your forecast and your margins, illuminate the meaning of everything your prospect tells you.
Ask questions. Pursue clarity. At every step.

3. A timely and lovely article to kick off your November
At Slattery, we're pretty excited to be entering a festive month filled with celebrations unique to this incredible nation we call home:
Our nation's 60th presidential election on November 5
Veteran's day on November 11
The most American of feasts, Thanksgiving, on November 28
And national Native American Heritage month, all month
My dad served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, and will be serving his country as an poll volunteer in just a few days. I will be happily and gratefully be feeding him and my mom (and my in-laws, and my kids, and my husband, and our German Shepherd) on Thanksgiving day. As much as I love traveling the world, this month feels uniquely American, and I love to be home for every minute of it.
In that spirit, I share with you this article from American Essence magazine highlighting the story of Harvey Pratt -- the artist, former Marine, and Vietnam veteran behind the "Warrior's Circle" memorial in Washington D.C. This lovely memorial, funded entirely by donations, pays tribute to those from tribal nations who have served in the U.S. military.
Enjoy the quick read, relish all of the uniquely American festivities this month, keep your loved ones close, and eat an extra piece of pumpkin pie for me.
